Bear Academy
A classroom platform for planning, presenting, practice and student work
Bear Academy is built and run by a practicing 6th grade teacher, not a company, and is used with that teacher's own classes. Teachers create their students' accounts; students do not sign themselves up.
What it does
Planning
Course plans, units and lessons organized around the standards a class is working toward.
Presenting
Slide decks shown on the classroom display, with live checks for understanding.
Practice
Skill practice that adapts to each student, with progress the teacher can see by skill.
Assessment and student work
Assignments, written responses and results in one gradebook for the teacher.
Google account access
A teacher can choose to connect their own Google account. Students never connect one. Bear Academy asks only for the access the teacher approves on Google's consent screen, and uses it only for these features:
- Google Calendar: import the school year's holidays and no-school days into the teacher's Bear Academy calendar, and add an entry to Google Calendar when the teacher sends one there.
- Google Forms: turn an assignment into a Google Form in the teacher's own Google account, and show the teacher that form's results. No student names or other student information are sent to Google.
Google data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shown to anyone but that teacher. Disconnecting Google in Bear Academy revokes its access at Google and deletes the stored connection. The Privacy Policy describes each permission in full.
Student privacy
No advertising, no tracking across other sites, and no sale of any information. Student information is used only to run the classroom: showing each person their own classes and work, and grading and reporting for their teacher.
